Yamaha YZ250F vs Honda CRF250R vs Kawasaki KX250

The three Japanese 250 four-stroke motocross bikes on Australian specs. All three quote weight with fuel, so the weights are broadly comparable. Price is the hardest part to compare, because only Honda publishes a figure.

Desk research from each maker's or seller's Australian pages, not a ride test. We don't pick a winner. Figures checked between 27 October 2026 and 29 October 2026.

The differences that matter

Price

Honda Australia lists the CRF250R from $11,999 ride away under a runout offer of $2,000 off, ending 31 December 2026. Yamaha and Kawasaki give ride away prices only by postcode, so we can't show a figure for the YZ250F or KX250.

Model years

Yamaha Australia describes the 2027 YZ250F as all-new. The CRF250R is the 2026 model in runout. Kawasaki Australia lists the 2027 KX250 as coming, with the 2026 model on sale; its 2026 and 2027 spec tables are identical.

Weight

Yamaha lists 107 kg wet, Honda 107 kg kerb and Kawasaki 109.5 kg curb with a full tank. All include fuel, but Yamaha doesn't state the fuel level, so a difference of a kilogram or two isn't meaningful.

Seat height and clearance

The YZ250F seat is 970 mm; the CRF250R and KX250 are both 955 mm. Ground clearance is 345 mm (Yamaha), 330 mm (Honda) and 340 mm (Kawasaki).

Suspension and brakes

Front travel is 310 mm on the Yamaha and Honda and 305 mm on the Kawasaki. Rear travel is 295 mm (Yamaha), 308 mm (Honda) and 307 mm (Kawasaki). Front discs are 270 mm on the Yamaha and Kawasaki and 260 mm on the Honda.

Specifications side by side

Each figure is as the Australian source publishes it. Weight bases differ between makers, so read the label under each weight. "Not published" means the source doesn't give it; we never estimate.
